Job summary

Are you ready for a new communications challenge? We're looking for a dynamic individual to act as the key communications and engagement business partner for one of the NHS Business Services Authority's (NHSBSA) biggest transformation programmes.

You will be part of the wider NHSBSA Communications and Marketing team with a focus on the ESR Transformation Programme, to deliver a future workforce solution for the NHS. A key element of this role will be the relationships you build with your NHSBSA colleagues, to create internal and external content for everything such as events, newsletters, social media, video, case studies and news.

We are looking for someone who can create engaging content for the programme's various communication channels, but also proactively forecast and manage upcoming communications activity. You'll also work with the communications team to manage the reputation of the programme in response to any media enquiries, FOIs or crises.

Main duties of the job

Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders such as key delivery partners and journalists. Acting as a communications and engagement business partner for the programme, working collaboratively with senior management teams to understand their communications challenges and develop innovative communication solutions that benefit the business and programme. Proactively forward plan to map out communications activity. When required, working closely with the Freedom of Information team to ensure context is provided to responses where appropriate. Taking a proactive approach to campaigns and working with the wider team to promote initiatives and key messages as appropriate. Writing press releases, media responses, news articles and other content for internal and external publications and channels. Collating, reviewing, and delivering communications reports. Deal with any media enquiries which could potentially be highly complex and sensitive, advising senior managers to take an appropriate course of action. Work with your team to manage crisis communications to restore and rebuild reputation. Use the Government Communication Service OASIS model to build any communication plans and strategies. Use data and insight to influence communications activity around stakeholder needs, how they behave, how we can change behaviour and to evaluate our work.

Job responsibilities

In this role, you are accountable for:

Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with the Communications team at the Department of Health and Social Care and at other Arms Length Bodies, journalists, and Senior Managers at the NHSBSA. Acting as a communications and engagement business partner to the programme, working collaboratively with senior management teams to understand their communications challenges and developing innovative solutions that benefit the business and the customer, ultimately helping to deliver the NHSBSAs business strategy. Working closely with the Freedom of Information team to ensure context is provided to responses where appropriate. Taking a proactive approach to media relations and working with the programmes senior management team and the Media and Campaigns team to promote initiatives as appropriate. Writing press releases, media responses and content for internal and external publications and channels, ensuring appropriate tone of voice and that the NHSBSA narrative and programme key messages are reflected. Collating and delivering communications reports for your programme area, which will form part of an overall performance dashboard for the Communications and Marketing team. Dealing with highly complex and sensitive information where you will need to influence and persuade Senior Managers to take an appropriate communications approach. Managing crisis communications for your programme and working with your line manager to ensure messages are reflected internally and externally as appropriate. Developing, implementing, and evaluating high quality, stakeholder communications campaigns using the Government Communication Service OASIS model to meet the communications and engagement strategy objectives. This includes supporting any associated budget and DHSC spend control submissions. Ensuring your communications activity uses data and insight to understand what our customers need, how they behave, how we can change behaviour and to evaluate our work. Working with colleagues in the wider Communications and Marketing team to develop a communication forward plan to map out activity. Developing a good understanding of activity across the wider Communications and Marketing team to ensure work is complemented and not duplicated, and to identify joint opportunities for promotion. Building strong and positive relationships with senior colleagues and networks across the programme and the NHSBSA and acting as the communications link between your programme and other government departments, professional bodies and key journalists. Personal Qualities, Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Experience in handling media enquiries with potential to damage reputation. Ability to analyse complex or sensitive information and advice others to take an appropriate communications approach. Good understanding of the media landscape and is alert to issues in the media/society, and how they impact on audiences and campaign activities. Ability to operate dynamically and flexibly by managing and prioritising workload with competing priorities. Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with stakeholders and colleagues to understand communications challenges to design innovative solutions, with the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately to maintain relationships. Strong team player and self-motivated with an ethos of continuous improvement. Has a positive outlook and attitude, acting with passion, enthusiasm, and commitment, as well as being Proactive, creative, and forward thinking, with a track record of trying new things. Ability to provide strategic communication direction and advice based on professional expertise. Knowledge and understanding of corporate identity and branding. Understanding of new technologies and social media. Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Experience of working on a wide range of internal and external communications, for example stakeholder, digital engagement, proactive PR, marketing, campaigns, communications strategy, and evaluation. Experience of working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders. Experience of developing communications and engagement plans. Experience of the commissioning process and working with suppliers Experience of media handling and reputation management.

Experience of operating within a large, multi-site and complex organisation Experience of working with the Government Communication Service MCOM model.
