We are looking for confident and creative communicators who are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment to join our internal communications team. In these varied roles you will shape creative, effective communications for our people, from senior leaders to frontline employees. You will work with colleagues across Defra group to make sure our people know about the difference we collectively make.

Within the Communications Directorate you will be welcomed into a supportive network and enabled to build a fulfilling and impactful career. We provide a communications service to the department and other Defra group bodies, such as the Environment Agency, the Rural Payments Agency (RPA), Natural England and the Animal Plant and Health Agency (APHA).

You can read our Defra group Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, which sets out our focused ambition to be a thriving and inclusive place of work.

**Job description**:
We have two roles available in the Defra group Internal Communications team.

The first role sits within the ‘hub’ function of the core Defra internal communications team. The hub provides flexible resource to support projects across the wider internal communications team. The second role sits within our Internal Communications team facing into the Rural Payments Agency (RPA), one of Defra’s Executive Agencies.

Both roles will require a self-starter who is able to get to grips with a brief quickly, juggle multiple projects and be willing to use your skills flexibly or learn new skills.

The role within the ‘hub’ function of core Defra is based in London to provide close support to the Permanent Secretary’s office and senior leaders. The location for the role facing into RPA is flexible and can be based at any one of the offices across the Defra group estate.

The post-holder will be expected to attend their specified office two to three days per week. Some travel will be required to support events and visits across the country.

The post holder will:

- Help maintain the organisational intranets, publishing content, ensuring consistently high standards and providing editorial advice. Training will be provided on our content management system.
- Support the Group Internal Communications team in meeting business objectives, including campaign implementation, event support, content development and publishing requirements.
- Play an active part in the Defra group incident response if required; taking part in contingency preparedness training and incident exercises.
- Support the delivery of senior leader engagement, including regular hybrid all-staff events - creating briefings, managing technical support, sourcing venues and finding ways to make events interactive.

- Ability to build strong relationships and develop a good network
- Ability to use different channels to engage people effectively, including digital options
