Role Overview:

As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the English department, helping students enhance their literacy skills and foster a love for English literature and language. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Student Support: Providing individual and small group support to students, assisting them with understanding and analyzing texts, developing writing skills, and preparing for exams.
  • Classroom Assistance: Working closely with the classroom teacher to support lesson delivery, manage classroom behavior, and create a positive learning environment.
  • Resource Preparation: Assisting in the preparation of teaching materials and resources that make learning engaging and accessible for all students.
  • Progress Monitoring: Tracking student progress, identifying areas where additional support is needed, and providing feedback to teachers to help tailor instruction to student needs.
  • Intervention Programs: Delivering targeted intervention programs to help students who are struggling with particular aspects of the English curriculum.
  • Extra-Curricular Activities: Supporting extra-curricular activities and English-related enrichment programs to foster a deeper interest in the subject.
  • Collaboration: Working collaboratively with teachers, the English department, and other support staff to ensure the effective delivery of the curriculum and comprehensive support for students.

Requirements:

  • A degree in English or a related field.
  • A strong passion for education and a keen interest in helping students succeed in English.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to explain complex literary and linguistic concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to working in a dynamic school environment.
  • Previous experience working with young people, either in a school setting or through tutoring, is beneficial but not essential.
