Your Role As an Assistant Strategic Development Manager in the NPR and High Speed Development Team you will develop and apply knowledge, skills and experience in order to assist with the strategic development of schemes, the production of robust transport business cases, and handover for delivery of authorised funded projects and programmes to time, budget and relevant standards in pursuance of Greater Manchester's 2040 Transport Strategy.
You will support the Strategic Development Managers and Senior Strategic Development Managers to ensure schemes are developed that best fit GM's requirements, have robust transport business cases including the right approvals and consents, and appropriate funding and financing arrangements.
You will be working alongside stakeholders across the city-region including politicians, local councils and developers on proposals that enhance placemaking and connectivity for Greater Manchester.
You will shape schemes so that they can be moved forward for on-time and on-budget delivery to the required standards.
This is a career graded position where you will learn skills that can be applied across the early-stage development of transport schemes, with excellent learning and development opportunities that includes progress towards professional accreditation and structured career path opportunities.
Through this advertisement, we will also be establishing a talent pool for the role of Assistant Strategic Development Manager for vacancies that may become available over the next six months across the Transport Strategy Directorate, as we work towards delivering Greater Manchester's transport priorities.
What you'll bring A strong team player, you'll have a track record of building productive working relations with a variety of professional and public stakeholders.
The role will provide you with opportunities to develop your scheme development, project management and business case skills.
You will have a good knowledge of urban transit modes and interfaces with local and national government policies and strategies and an ability to work in partnership and make a positive contribution to work teams as a team player and with equal ability to work effectively on one's own initiative and without close supervision.
A background in scheme development at the front end of the lifecycle (such as feasibility studies, Strategic Outline Cases, and Outline Business Cases) and experience of the promotion of statutory powers (for example Transport and Works Act Orders, Highways Act Orders, Development Consent Orders, or Hybrid Bill) is desirable but not essential.

What we can offer you This is a permanent position with a salary of £27,841 to £36,683 per annum.
Salary will be dependent on skills and experience.
