A brilliant opportunity to join the management team of this high profile and forward-thinking Rugby Club and sporting venue located in SW London.
The organisation comprises a thriving rugby club (Richmond Rugby) and an increasingly busy venue business (The Richmond Athletic Ground) which hosts a diverse array of events, from major 7s and other sporting festivals to corporate events, international rugby hospitality and a big annual fireworks display.
With a rich heritage and ambitious plans for continued growth on and off the field, this is a role for a sales driven, commercially minded and growth focused individual who will thrive in a vibrant and highly rewarding environment. The Head of Commercial will be absolutely motivated to leverage the opportunities within the local and wider areas to help grow the commercial income of the club. These opportunities range from increasing revenue from membership, match day and other event day footfall, venue hire, food and beverage revenue and sponsorship and partnership opportunities as well as identifying and developing new opportunities.

The Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Head of Commercial will have full responsibility for implementing a proactive and innovative commercial strategy for both the rugby club and the venue to maximise all revenue growth opportunities. Core responsibilities and measurements of success will include but not be limited to:
- Proactively build out a sales pipeline for sponsorship, rugby events, corporate events, international match days, conferences and other venue hire opportunities.
- Sell out all matchday sponsorship assets, from kit, perimeter boards, stand assets and pitch names.
- Build out a Richmond Rugby events calendar that excites fans, alumni, and local businesses and maximises match day revenues
- Proactively outreach weekly, to new prospects, and convert into the business for the club
- Maximise revenue opportunities generated from the international games/ concerts/Premiership Rugby finals etc at Twickenham Stadium by creating and delivering products that take advantage of both our location, proximity to the station, and the pedestrian traffic.
- Build out a summer programme which maximises the site opportunity.
- Champion new ideas that monetise the site – work with promoters, and other partners that can create or co-create new commercial opportunities – from festivals through to sporting events.
- Own and maximise the yield for the car parking operation in the club.
The Person
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate the following skills, experience and personal attributes:
- Significant track record of delivering revenue growth across multiple income streams with a sports, leisure or hospitality-based venue.
- A strategic and tactical thinker, and natural doer, adopting and hands-on, front-line approach to day-to-day business development activity and driving sales.
- Innovative and creative approach – strive for best in class across all areas whilst introducing new ideas to meet changing demand.
- Highly competent and proactive networker who thrives on meeting new individuals and organisations to build strong relationships and ultimately sales.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to confidently present to groups and deliver slick and impactful sales pitches.
- A natural collaborator working across rugby, events and venue teams to maximise the commercial performance and customer experience across all areas.
