Job Purpose

At WHSmith, we're seeking a skilled Partnership Development Manager to drive our commercial growth and development in Partnerships for WHSmith Travel. This exciting new role will focus on steering our development and growth, ensuring we maximize our partnerships' potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a deep understanding of commercial performance and ensure all levers are maximized.
  • Manage sales, waste, availability, and margin targets for all partnerships, including target agreements with partners and internally within WHSmith.
  • Understand margin for each partnership and flag any issues for action with partners.
  • Ensure all setup requirements are completed by relevant stakeholders for pricing changes, menu changes, or other setup needs.
  • Action key commercial VCO drivers to deliver budgets within partnerships.
  • Coordinate and action key commercial asks of partners on behalf of stakeholders, ensuring full settlements and actions as required.
  • Action key changes to supply chain and ranging with partners to improve margin and sales.
  • Flag and action risks and opportunities on P&Ls by partnerships.
  • Articulate commercial performance of all partnerships and participate in key trading meetings and forums.
  • Provide commercial performance input into partnership governance meetings.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Franchise models, opportunities, and risks, and levers to maximize return.
  • Assist in financial accounting issues through settlement processes with partners.
  • Use data to gain insights into performance and make recommendations for action with current partners.
  • Work with the Insights team to have a current and appropriate view of partnerships' role in WHSmith – new and current.
  • Provide current market analysis of partnership opportunities and markets we should be in.
  • Assist in FA and contract negotiations, providing supporting insight and analysis.
  • Develop and maintain a channel and partner strategy for the next 3 years.
  • Articulate KPI performance of Partnerships and flag any risks of compliance.
  • Feed into and guide the strategy for Joint Business Plans for all partnerships to ensure they are robust with actions to drive growth organically.

Requirements

  • First-hand experience in managing trade for franchise partnerships.
  • Advanced levels of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to drive clear actions from analysis.
  • Understanding of the retail and hospitality markets and how they perform in Travel.
  • Experience of managing levers in a Franchise Agreement.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills that can adapt to different styles.
  • Evidence of stakeholder management across multiple teams.
  • Excellent understanding of P&L analysis and the ability to drive improvement.
  • Evidence of driving commercial performance through a Hospitality partnership and through a Joint Business Plan.
  • Managing relationships with integrity.
