Job Title: Senior Specialist Learning Support Officer

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Specialist Learning Support Officer to join our Visual Impairment (VI) team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality support to children and young people with visual or multi-sensory impairments, ensuring they receive the best possible education and achieve their full potential.

About the Role

The VI Team is a forward-thinking service of specialist teachers and support staff who work across various settings in the Wakefield District to enhance inclusive education for children and young people with sensory impairments. As a Senior Specialist Learning Support Officer, you will work in partnership with schools, professionals, and other agencies to support children with visual impairments and their families to participate fully in all aspects of society.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert support to children and young people with visual or multi-sensory impairments, including those with complex needs.
  • Work collaboratively with schools, professionals, and other agencies to develop and implement individualized support plans.
  • Contribute to the development of inclusive education practices and strategies to support children with sensory impairments.
  • Manage a caseload of children and young people, providing regular updates and progress reports to parents and carers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with parents and carers, providing support and guidance to ensure their child's needs are met.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience of working as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant in a school setting or substantial experience of working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with a vision impairment.
  • A willingness to work with computers and assistive technology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, parents, and professionals.
  • A strong understanding of inclusive education practices and strategies to support children with sensory impairments.
