Strategic Operations Manager

Job Summary
The University of Cambridge is seeking an experienced Business and Operations Manager to support the Head of the Department of Earth Sciences in achieving strategic aims and objectives.
This role involves providing high-level oversight of finance, HR, teaching, and research grants, as well as ensuring the Sedgwick Museum and IEEF are well supported in these areas.
The successful candidate will oversee and manage delivery of the Department's business, administration, and services, striving for continuous improvement.
They will support and advise senior staff members on governance, policy, and business operations, and the planning and implementation of new developments to support the effective delivery of teaching and research.
Key responsibilities will include maintaining the connection between support staff on two main sites, providing strategic and operational leadership, and ensuring coordination of the support staff team's work.
The ideal candidate will have excellent organisational and managerial ability, extensive administrative experience, good inter-personal skills, imagination, and diplomacy.
They will be self-motivated, with a very flexible approach to their work, and be able to initiate ideas, respond sensitively to the needs of others, and prioritise work to meet deadlines by means of effective time management skills.
Previous experience in a higher education environment would be advantageous.
