We are seeking a skilled Software Development Engineer - Ocean Forecasting to join our team at the Met Office, a world-leading weather and climate scientific organization.

Our compensation package includes an estimated salary of £37,776 per annum, comprising a base pay of £26,954, a Recruitment Retention Allowance of £2,200, and other benefits such as an outstanding Civil Service pension scheme and annual leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays). About the Role

As a Software Development Engineer - Ocean Forecasting, your primary responsibilities will include developing and supporting tools to assess and monitor the quality and accuracy of our ocean forecasts, integrating ocean forecast verification within coupled atmosphere-ocean systems, and enhancing how we visualize our models to assist monitoring and assessment of forecast performance.

Your Key Duties

  • Develop and maintain advanced software applications using Python, Linux, and other relevant technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and test innovative software solutions.
  • Work closely with data scientists and researchers to integrate ocean forecast verification into our coupled atmosphere-ocean systems.
  • Enhance the visual representation of our models to improve monitoring and assessment of forecast performance.
