About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Midwife Specialist in Diabetes Care to join our team at Barts Health NHS Trust. As a Clinical Lead, you will be responsible for providing expert clinical and professional advice on the care of women with diabetes during pregnancy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide effective leadership to the diabetes/pregnancy team and act as lead midwife on diabetes in maternity services.
  • Work collaboratively with the other diabetes team members; contribute to the education and the professional development of staff in the acute and primary care setting.
  • Be actively involved in client/family education, supporting midwives and GP's to provide on-going antenatal care and planning care for clients.
  • Audit, monitor and evaluate the service provided.

Requirements
  • Experience across the whole spectrum of pregnancy pathway including normal and complex needs, covering both hospital and community based care.
  • A minimum of three years as a midwife.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of diabetes management in pregnancy.
  • Current knowledge of National guidelines, standards and recommendations impacting on maternity services.
  • Ability to counsel women and give advice within specialist area of practice pregnant women with Type 1 diabetes.
  • Proven experience of effective working in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Ability to work as part a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to provide formal teaching development to staff/colleague.
  • Mentorship experience.
  • Ability to evaluate effectiveness of learning activities and identifies how it could be improved.
  • Report Writing Skills.
  • Presentation Skills.
  • IT Literate (MS WP/Excel & PowerPoint).
  • Change Management.
  • Innovative Practice.
  • Research and Audit.

Qualifications
  • Registered Midwife with current NMC registration.
  • Commitment to professional development.
  • Registered Midwife qualified to degree level.
  • ENB 998/997 or equivalent.
  • ENB 928 or similar current diabetes course.
  • Masters or evidence of significant post registration education.
