Solace Women's Aid is committed to ending the harm caused by gender-based violence. We work with women and children, offering services tailored to the unique needs of survivors. Our approach is holistic and empowering, partnering with survivors to achieve independent, abuse-free lives.

We are seeking a Shadow Board of between 8 to 10 members, with lived experience of violence against women and girls, to work alongside and act as a critical friend to our Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will have a diverse range of expertise and skills, working together with the Board of Trustees in fulfilling responsibilities for the strategic direction and overall governance of the organisation.

The Shadow Board Member will work alongside our Board of Trustees to provide strategic leadership across the organisation. This includes preparing for and actively participating in committee meetings with fellow Shadow Board members, leading on Social Justice commitments, promoting equity, diversity, and lived experience.

The successful candidate will offer insights to support and enhance the governance and operations of the organisation, advocating for survivor-centred approaches to governance. They will support strategic planning sessions and champion our values, driving cultural change.

Key Requirements:

  • Understanding of UK charity governance and VAWG sector
  • Strategic and operational experience, ideally with experience in financial management or group leadership
  • Commitment to Solace's vision of equity, diversity, and inclusion
