About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Academic Engagement Manager to join our team at NHS North Central London Integrated Care Board. As a key member of our specialist engagement team, you will play a crucial role in championing the voice of patients and residents, and providing engagement expertise to support our ICB priorities.

The successful candidate will support us to meet our statutory duties and embed the aims and principles of our Working with People and Communities and Working with Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises strategies. You will work in partnership with members of our wider communications and engagement team, delivering joined-up communications and engagement strategies, often in relation to high complex and high profile health and care programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise on and deliver best practice engagement and involvement activity to improve population health, including service changes, transformation projects, behaviour change programmes, and so on at system, place, and neighbourhood level.
  • Support us to put patient and public voice at the heart of decision making, supporting staff to meaningfully involve public, patients, and other stakeholders in shaping their projects and plans.
  • Support the planning, organisation, and implementation of complex strategies and programmes of engagement, involvement, and consultation work as appropriate, interpreting and applying national guidelines.
  • Provide expert advice to enable patient and public involvement and engagement, commissioning specialist support for PPI, as required, using specialist skills and experience to develop innovative ways of engaging and involving patients, public, and stakeholders in our work.
  • Support consultation on high-priority issues with external audiences, including those which have traditionally been considered 'seldom heard', utilising a variety of communications and market research methods to successfully reach and engage target groups.

  • Experience of working with voluntary sector or community groups.
  • Experience of driving innovation in engagement activity.
  • Experience of undertaking analysis and evaluation work to produce reports.
  • Experience of working directly with patients and the public, including in situations of uncertainty.
  • Experience of managing public consultations.
Knowledge
  • Experience of working in a similar role in the NHS, Voluntary and Social Enterprise, or wider public sector.

  • Ability to work to the highest standards, demonstrating resilience to pressure, a willingness to adapt quickly to changing situations, work flexibly, and retain due professionalism at all times.
