About the Role

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to join our team at an Alternative Schooling Provision in Chelmsford. As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and support staff to deliver tailored learning and care plans.
  • Work with multi-agency teams to develop personalized care plans that cater to the unique needs of each student.
  • Establish and maintain clear boundaries for students with challenging behavior, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Provide emotional and academic support to students, promoting positive social interactions and development.
  • Assist students in managing triggers and regulating their emotions, creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a similar role is highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage challenging behavior and set clear boundaries.
  • A compassionate and patient approach to supporting young people with complex needs.
  • Willingness to work with students with sensory and emotional needs.
  • Graduates in SEN, Psychology, Criminology, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Support Workers interested in training to become Teaching Assistants or Cover Supervisors are also welcome.
  • The ideal candidate will have a background in challenging SEN provisions, youth/community/social services, residential support, or mental health support services.
  • Ideally, Team Teach, Mappa, Nappi, or Pillars Trained (desired but not necessary).
  • Clear Enhanced DBS registered to the update service (we can provide details on how to start a new application).
  • Ability to provide a full career history and two referees.
