Job Title: Senior Specialist Learning Support Officer

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our Visual Impairment (VI) team as a Senior Specialist Learning Support Officer. The successful candidate will provide excellent support to children and young people with a visual or multi-sensory impairment, working in partnership with schools, professionals, and other agencies to ensure they participate fully in all aspects of society.

About the Role

The VI Team is a forward-thinking service of specialist teachers and support staff who work across a variety of settings in the Wakefield District to enhance inclusive education for children and young people with a sensory impairment. As a Senior Specialist Learning Support Officer, you will work in partnership with schools, professionals, and other agencies to support children with a visual impairment and their families to participate fully in all aspects of society.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent support to children and young people with a visual or multi-sensory impairment
  • Work in partnership with schools, professionals, and other agencies to ensure children participate fully in all aspects of society
  • Manage your own caseload and work with other learning support officers, advisory teachers, to ensure appropriate advice and strategies, risk management, and inclusion are facilitated
  • Support and develop work with other learning support officers, together with advisory teachers, to ensure appropriate advice and strategies, risk management, and inclusion are facilitated
  • Have experience of working as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant in a school setting, or substantial experience of working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with a vision impairment
  • Have a willingness to work with computers and assistive technology
Requirements
