The successful candidate will provide high-quality support to children and young people with visual or multi-sensory impairments, ensuring they receive the best possible education and achieve their full potential.
About the RoleThe VI Team is a forward-thinking service of specialist teachers and support staff who work across various settings in the Wakefield District to enhance inclusive education for children and young people with sensory impairments. As a Senior Specialist Learning Support Officer, you will work in partnership with schools, professionals, and other agencies to support children with visual impairments and their families to participate fully in all aspects of society.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert support to children and young people with visual or multi-sensory impairments, including those with complex needs.
- Work collaboratively with schools, professionals, and other agencies to develop and implement individualized support plans.
- Support the development of assistive technology and other strategies to enhance inclusive education.
- Manage a caseload of children and young people, including some work with parents.
- Contribute to the development of the VI Team's policies and procedures.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Experience of working as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant in a school setting or substantial experience of working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with a vision impairment.A willingness to work with computers and assistive technology.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.What We OfferWe offer a supportive and inclusive work environment, opportunities for professional development, and a competitive salary and benefits package.
