Buxton, Derbyshire, United Kingdom Derbyshire County Council Full time

Derbyshire County Council is dedicated to providing exceptional care through its network of children's homes. Our facilities create a nurturing atmosphere where young individuals can feel secure and content.

Guided by principles of Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy (PACE), alongside trauma-informed practices and social pedagogy, we are committed to enhancing the quality of care in our children's homes. Our goal is to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to flourish and grow.

This position offers a unique chance to join a small children's home that is currently being renovated and is set to welcome residents soon. It is a specialized, low-occupancy service designed to assist children in transitioning to a permanent home.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with a supportive management team, receive ongoing supervision, and contribute to the development of the service. While renovations are underway, training and orientation will occur at other Derbyshire children's homes. Applicants must be at least 21 years old due to the age of the children.

As a Youth Care Support Specialist, you will provide essential services to children within Specialist Services, adhering to legislative and policy standards. Working within a close-knit team, you will offer personalized support to children and young people, ensuring their holistic care and safety needs are met.

You will engage in close collaboration with partner organizations to support children and their families. It is essential to integrate the therapeutic ethos of Derbyshire Residential Services into your work, addressing all aspects of a child's physical, emotional, and social development.

A successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to engage in relationship-focused and psychologically informed practices. You should possess the necessary skills and experience to thrive in an environment that may require initiative and a solid understanding of relevant regulations and standards.

Candidates must hold, be pursuing, or be willing to obtain the Level 3 Children and Young People's Workforce Diploma and Social Care Pathway within two years of employment. Equivalent qualifications, such as NVQ Level 3 in Caring for Children and Young People, are also acceptable, provided that additional work is completed to meet the required standards. Further details regarding the role can be found in the Job and Person profile.

The Youth Care Support Specialist position includes additional compensation for shift work (early shifts, late shifts, and sleep-in duties) to ensure 24-hour care is provided.
