About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Waterway Operations Manager to join our team at the Canal & River Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of colleagues and volunteers to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our waterways across the East London canal network.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a prioritized improvement program to enhance visitor satisfaction and deliver against the Trust's strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the area and wider Trust to complete works, deliver wellbeing, engagement, and promotional activities.
  • Liaise with and coordinate Trust priorities with other teams to ensure all works and initiatives are programmed and delivered with current and future visitors in mind.
  • Manage minor projects, including grant-funded initiatives, and achieve outcomes and budget compliance.
  • Develop and grow the volunteering contribution to the care of the waterways, with a targeted, engaging, and satisfying program of opportunities.
  • Line manage, coach, and mentor a team of paid colleagues and volunteers to operate the waterway, deliver a planned program of maintenance works, and respond to reactive tasks.
Requirements
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with proven experience of leading successful teams and managing and motivating groups of volunteers.
  • Substantial experience of developing and delivering programs of work that have been effective in turning a strategic vision into reality.
  • Proven experience of safety management, with a NEBOSH or IOSH Managing Safely certificate advantageous.
  • A full and valid driving license is essential for this role.
