Approved Mental Health Practitioner

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health Professional to join our team at Devon County Council. As an Approved Mental Health Practitioner, you will play a crucial role in providing an essential response to urgent requests for assessments under the Mental Health Act.
The Devon County Council out-of-hours AMHP Service involves triaging and prioritising workloads to make decisions on carrying out assessments in line with Devon County Council's statutory responsibilities. This new specialist out-of-hours AMHP service will work alongside a separate Emergency Duty Service (EDS), which responds to Children and Adult referrals in an out-of-hours joint social care team.
This revised service was introduced to implement specialist service models for our three core EDS services (Adults, Children's and Mental Health), providing an improved, streamlined way of partnership working. The increase in the number of AMHPs and the introduction of AMHP managers working out-of-hours will provide a more supportive environment to work in and a greater capacity to manage the increasing demand for this essential service.
Main Duties of the Job
As an Approved Mental Health Practitioner, your key responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking MHA assessments independently
- Working in multi-disciplinary settings
- Applying complex and specialist legislation, including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act and Children Act
- Valid driving licence
About Us
Devon County Council is committed to providing excellent support and supervision to our staff, with regular opportunities to discuss and reflect on your practice. We offer a generous Local Government Pension Scheme and a relocation package of up to £10,000, subject to qualifying conditions. Visa sponsorship may also be offered as part of the relocation support package.
What We Can Offer You
- 26 days annual leave, plus Bank Holidays, rising incrementally to 31 days after 5 years service
- Excellent support and supervision
- Relocation package of up to £10,000
- Visa sponsorship
