Mechanical Project Engineer Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team at PM Group in North West England. As a key member of our project delivery team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful completion of projects while prioritizing workplace safety and adhering to all site SHE regulations.
About the RoleThis is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical engineer with a strong background in project engineering and management to take on a challenging role that requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:- Safety and Quality Management: Promote and maintain a safe working environment, adhering to all site SHE regulations and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and procedures.
- Project Delivery: Collaborate with project contract personnel to ensure timely and budget-friendly completion of projects without compromising personnel safety, containment, or environmental integrity.
- Mechanical Engineering Expertise: Provide mechanical engineering expertise for the successful implementation and completion of projects as requested by the business.
- Design and Development: Develop detailed design packages for mechanical, structural, civil, and building services works, including scope of work, cost estimates, drawings, installation procedures, and safety protocols.
- Hazard Minimization: Design projects according to approved procedures to minimize potential hazards.
- Procurement and Contract Management: Participate in the procurement process by obtaining price quotations for project works and advising on contractor selection.
- Site Supervision: Supervise contract staff performing site installation tasks, including issuing permits (General Work Permits, Hot Work Permits).
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with site maintenance and process personnel to ensure projects meet operation, maintenance, and energy efficiency requirements.
- Problem-Solving Support: Offer problem-solving support to Project, Operations, and Maintenance Teams as needed.
- Capital Projects Delivery: Deliver mechanical capital expenditure/decommissioning projects in support of EP Site Capital Plan from concept through commissioning and handover.
- Knowledge Management and Improvement: Contribute to ongoing Knowledge Management, Quality Improvement, and Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) programs.
- Resource Optimization: Manage mechanical design resources and coordinate site-embedded mechanical project contractors to optimize resource utilization.
To be successful in this role, you must possess:
- A degree, HND, or HNC in mechanical engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience working in the chemical/petrochemical industry in a plant installation or design engineering capacity.
- Prior experience in managing contractors and overseeing construction site safety is highly desirable.
- Excellent leadership and man-management skills, with the ability to lead mechanical-oriented capital projects or contribute to multi-discipline teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office systems, particularly Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project, with experience using AutoCAD (ideally AutoCAD 3D) being a significant advantage.
