Job Summary

The City of Edinburgh Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Teacher of the Deaf to join our Additional Support for Learning Service. As a Specialist Teacher for Deaf Children, you will provide support to deaf children and young people with complex additional support needs, working in inclusive settings to ensure they receive the best possible education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct specialist assessments and interpret results to inform teaching and learning strategies
  • Test and monitor hearing levels to identify areas for support
  • Provide advice on acoustic environments, communication modes, and amplification devices to ensure optimal learning conditions
  • Deliver direct teaching and enriched language input to support the development of deaf learners
  • Work with partners, parents, and other professionals to meet the needs of deaf children and young people
  • Develop and deliver training to support the inclusion of deaf learners in mainstream settings

Requirements

  • GTCS registration as a primary or secondary teacher
  • Experience working with deaf children and young people with complex additional support needs
  • Ability to advise on the needs of learners who are deaf with additional complex needs
  • Willingness to work in a peripatetic service, supporting schools and settings across the city
  • Ability to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check
