Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher Support Specialist to join our team at Dumfries & Galloway Council. The successful candidate will support pupils and staff in identifying and assessing barriers to learning, and managing challenging behaviors through individualized teaching support, targeted interventions, observations, advice, and guidance, mentoring, and training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils and staff in identifying and assessing barriers to learning
  • Manage challenging behaviors through individualized teaching support, targeted interventions, observations, advice, and guidance, mentoring, and training
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement effective learning strategies
  • Provide guidance and support to teachers on how to adapt their teaching practices to meet the needs of pupils with additional support needs
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school policies and procedures related to additional support needs

Requirements

  • Registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in the appropriate sector
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Commitment to providing high-quality support to pupils and staff
