About the Role:

As a Lead Maths Teacher at Petherton Park School, you will have the opportunity to lead, manage, and develop tailored maths curriculums for our pupils.

We take an individual approach to each pupil's learning, based on their own needs, goals, strengths, and aspirations.

You will have the chance to promote maths in a positive way across the school, through fun and inspiring learning activities, such as Maths Bingo or Shape Treasure Hunts.

This is your chance to be creative and make learning fun.

We have some incredibly talented pupils who have a real passion for numbers, and you will have the chance to create inspirational ways to make maths enjoyable for those who may not enjoy the subject as much.

As a small school, you will need to teach other subjects as part of your daily routine.

Typically, classes are made up of four pupils, so you will have the chance to really get to know the pupils you support and connect with them.

You will work with neurodiverse children and young people, who have additional needs related to communication and interaction, cognition, and learning, sensory and/or physical.

Some pupils may have social and emotional challenges, and working with them to develop transferable life skills is essential for their transition into adulthood.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leading classroom activities, including planning, teaching, and assessing learning, particularly with 'your' class.
  • Monitoring and recording progress, both academically and against EHCP outcomes.
  • Working closely with pupils to keep them engaged, motivated, and inspired to reach their full potential.
  • Working either 1:1 with pupils, or in small group settings to help them achieve their learning goals.
  • Working closely with Teaching Assistants to direct them to effectively support the pupils.
  • Supporting team members with delivery of maths across the school, and having oversight of the subject as a whole.
Requirements:
  • An ability to teach maths to Level 2 (GCSE/Functional Skills).
  • Patience, compassion, and resilience – the pupils you teach will be neurodiverse, which can impact their learning behaviour and communication needs.
  • A driving licence – our pupils love to learn in a wide range of settings.
  • A genuine interest in a career focused on the education of people with a wide range of needs.
