Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Support Worker to join our team. As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting our service users with all aspects of their care, including activities and personal care.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the assessment, planning, and implementation of mental health care to meet the needs of the individual.
  2. Participate in the development of high-quality care, ensuring the needs of the older person are met.
  3. Participate in occupational and diversional activities.
  4. Assist with the physical needs of clients, helping with dressing, washing, toileting, and other personal needs where necessary.
  5. Undertake duties aimed at supporting the patient to return to live in the community, where appropriate.
  6. Observe the patient's general condition and report any changes to the appropriate health professional.
  7. Be aware of their responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act and work in such a way as to encourage an atmosphere conducive to healthy working conditions.
  8. Be aware of and comply with all relevant policies and procedures laid down by Navigo.
  9. Work flexibly, participating in a 24-hour rota.
  10. Attend and participate in ward/department meetings as required.
  11. Be aware of the need for complete confidentiality.
  12. Participate in supervision and PDR processes as per local policy.
  13. Participate in mandatory and other training as required.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Has a basic understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and DoLs.
  • Basic written communication skills to enable completion of records, etc.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of mental health.
  • NVQ level II or a willingness to undertake this or a certificate in Mental Health.

Desirable

  • Basic IT knowledge.

Essential

  • Aware of Health & Safety principles of self and others.
  • Demonstrates ability to listen and communicate effectively and to be empathic, compassionate, and patient.

Desirable

  • Demonstrate ability to work as a team member and form positive, therapeutic relationships with service users, carers, and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Essential

  • Be accessible and flexible in availability.
  • Willing to travel within the geographic work area in an effective manner.

Desirable

  • Ability to work flexibly, including weekends, evenings, nights, and bank holidays as required to meet service needs.
