About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Worker to join our team at Navigo Health and Social Care CIC. As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to our service users, helping them to achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the assessment, planning, and implementation of mental health care to meet the needs of individuals, under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Participate in the development of high-quality care, ensuring the needs of older adults are met, and each patient exercises their rights of choice, dignity, and privacy.
  • Engage in occupational and diversional activities to promote physical and mental well-being.
  • Attend to the physical needs of clients, helping with dressing, washing, toileting, and other personal needs, while promoting independence and dignity.
  • Support patients in returning to live in the community, by listening to and conversing with clients, helping them maintain contact with family, friends, and community, and assisting with recreation.
  • Observe patients' general condition and report any changes to the appropriate health professional.
  • Be aware of their responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act and work in a way that encourages a healthy working environment.
  • Comply with all relevant policies and procedures laid down by Navigo.
  • Work flexibly, participating in a 24-hour rota, and attend ward/department meetings as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and engage in supervision and PDR processes as per local policy.
  • Participate in mandatory and other training as required.
Person Specification

We are looking for an individual who:

  • Has a basic understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and DoLs, and is open to developing their knowledge in the needs of mental health patients.
  • Has basic written communication skills to enable completion of records, etc.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of mental health.
  • Has an NVQ level II or is willing to undertake this or a certificate in Mental Health.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Basic IT knowledge.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is aware of Health & Safety principles of self and others and works safely within Health and Safety policies.
  • Demonstrates the ability to listen and communicate effectively and be empathic, compassionate, and patient.

Desirable skills include:

  • Demonstrating the ability to work as a team member and form positive, therapeutic relationships with service users, carers, and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

We require someone who:

  • Is accessible and flexible in availability.
  • Is willing to travel within the geographic work area in an effective manner.

Desirable skills include:

  • Ability to work flexibly, including weekends, evenings, nights, and bank holidays as required to meet service needs.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A good understanding of mental health.
  • The practical skills to assist with activities of daily living and be prepared to assist with basic practical tasks.
  • An understanding of confidentiality.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
