About the Role

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a skilled Consultant Paediatrician to join its Department of Paediatrics and Neonates. The appointee will be responsible for providing integrated paediatric services, including the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness. Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with consultants to develop and manage paediatric services, ensuring seamless care delivery.
  • Provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in specialty and related services, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct clinical practice in accordance with Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust policies and procedures, and contractual requirements.
  • Maintain strong communication and liaison skills, working effectively within a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team.
About the Team

The Department of Paediatrics operates a Paediatric Consultant of the Week (PCOW) system, ensuring dedicated consultant cover for paediatric in-patient and day case ward services. The team has implemented a dedicated daytime consultant cover for PAU since 2019, which has been extended throughout the year following the relocation of the Paediatric Assessment Unit to the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre. Out-of-hours tier 3 level on-call cover is shared among participating consultants.

We are an integrated Trust and the sole provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700. Our services include inpatient and outpatient care at Manor Hospital, as well as a range of community services. We have invested heavily in our facilities, including the development of our Pleck Road site, Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit. Our new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre opened in early 2023.
