Applications are invited for the post of Plain X-Ray Lead Radiographer. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who has good communication skills and be willing to lead the delivery of a high quality service.

The post holder will be responsible for the management and delivery of Plain X-ray, supporting the Radiographic team to achieve high standards of imaging provision in terms of quality, safety and access to services, providing the Professional Lead and Head of Diagnostics with regular feedback regarding agreed key performance indicators for this service. They should have good communication skills, be willing to attend multidisciplinary meetings and deliver a high quality service.

The role is a split of clinical and management responsibilities, being accountable for H&S, Infection Control and Quality Assurance within the Plain X-Ray modality.

They will promote Trust values ensuring adherence to all policies and procedures and will line manage an allocated team, being responsible for their personal development and engagement.
- To act as the modality lead for all aspects of the Plain X-Ray service.
- To participate in appointment scheduling and be responsible for one’s own caseload.
- To prioritise patients independently and to organise workload from a wide variety of referral pathways.
- To maintain and develop clinical Plain X-Ray skills. Maintain fitness to practice with Professional Code of Conduct and through CPD
- To use a range of equipment to undertake plain X-Ray imaging and post processing, ensuring that images produced are of high quality to inform Radiological assessment and reporting, ensuring familiarity and continued proficiency with this equipment and workstations
- To deal with a range of operational pressures and developments within Plain X-Ray on a day to day basis providing professional and specialist support to staff
- To deputise for other lead Radiographers as required, ensuring service continuity across all modalities on a day to day basis
- Ensure the most efficient use of resources whilst ensuring service delivery
- To independently assess and justify examinations under the IR(ME)R 2017 regulations using department protocols when necessary.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children’s Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre. This is scheduled for completion this year.

- Attend appropriate clinical and operational meetings, feeding back to the Radiography team and informing service improvement as appropriate
- To maintain a flexible approach to participating in the 7 day shift system in place within the Imaging Department.
