To provide a highly specialist clinical psychology service to clients within the designated service area including specialist psychological assessment and therapy to patients as well as advice and consultation on patients’ psychological needs and treatment to referrers, general practitioners and non-psychologist colleagues within the multi-disciplinary team

The post will be based within the Paediatric and Integrated Diabetes Team at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. The post holder will be required to travel between hospital and community settings (schools, patient homes, other NHS premises)

Provide a specialist clinical service to Diabetic children and young people and their families (CYP). To act as lead practitioner, and autonomously manage a caseload of patients with highly complex and changing Diabetes care need.Provide and facilitate an expert level of advanced care to CYP with Diabetes acting as an accountable role model through the demonstration of evidence-based practice.Assess and interpret highly complex clinical situations and information from a variety of sources including, formal psychological assessments, self-report measures, rating scales, structured observations and semi structured interviews with patients, family members and others involved in the patients care.Carry out specialist bespoke psychological assessments where appropriate including in complex circumstances such as sensory impairments, cultural diversity and mental health involvement. Communicate findings to the client, family members and other health and social care staff involved in an appropriate and useful way.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trustis an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development of our Pleck Road site was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children’s Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre. This is scheduled for completion this year.

We provide high quality, friendly and effective community health services from some 60 sites including Health Centres and GP surgeries. Covering Walsall and beyond, our multidisciplinary services include rapid response in the community and home-based care, so that those with long-term conditions and the frail and elderly, can remain in their own homes to be cared for wherever appropriate.

Develop formulations and use highly specialist psychological models and frameworks to compare and inform highly specialised interventions and psychological therapies for CYP and their families, based on evidence of efficacy, to help them adjust to and cope emotionally with the often significantly distressing aspects of long-term conditions. Negotiate the implementation of such plans with clients and/or their carers. This may occur in individual or group settings.

Compare, evaluate and make decisions about diverse treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group. Facilitate decision-making by planning and mapping processes/interventions with members of the team to determine the most appropriate treatment modality or service for clients.
