Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Autism Specialist Practitioner to join our team at West London NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work with adults with autism and complex mental health needs, providing specialist assessments and interventions to improve their care and experience.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a client-centred autism specialist service to a defined caseload of service users with complex needs across acute and community mental health services. This will involve working closely with multidisciplinary teams to identify and meet the needs of service users under the care of acute mental health services with a diagnosis of autism or where autism is suspected.

The post holder will also be involved in outreach input to a defined cohort within community and recovery mental health services, where the individual is at risk of readmission to inpatient mental health services or a frequent user of unplanned care.

Person Specification

We are looking for a professional with a strong background in mental health and autism, who has experience of working with adults with complex needs. The ideal candidate will have a professional qualification in mental health, such as an Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse, Clinical Associate Psychologist, Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, or Arts Therapist.

They will also have current registration with the relevant professional body and experience of working with autistic people. Training relevant to working with autistic people, such as sensory integration and positive approaches to behaviours of concern, is also desirable.
