About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Specialist Practitioner to join our Autism Liaison Service at West London NHS Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing specialist assessments and interventions to autistic service users in acute and community mental health services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide client-centred autism specialist services to a defined caseload of service users with complex needs across acute and community mental health.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to identify and meet the needs of service users under the care of acute mental health services with a diagnosis of autism or where autism is suspected.
  • Offer assessments and interventions for autistic service users, bringing your specialist skills to support their needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including service users, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to service development and clinical audits, ensuring the highest standards of care and quality improvement.
Requirements
  • Professional qualification in mental health, such as Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse (RMN), Clinical Associate Psychologist (CAP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (BABCP accredited), or Arts Therapist.
  • Current registration with the relevant professional body (HCPC, NMC, BPS, BABCP).
  • Relevant post-qualification experience in Mental Health and/or Autism and/or Learning Disabilities.
  • Application of core profession-specific skills in assessments and interventions.
  • Experience of working with autistic people, including sensory integration, social stories, and positive approaches to behaviours of concern.
Desirable Criteria
  • Lived experience of autism, either as an autistic person or carer/supporter.
  • Experience of supervision of students and staff.
  • Experience of delivering training/teaching.
  • Experience of undertaking sensory assessments and sensory-based interventions.
