Job Overview

The Justice organisation seeks a Faith and Pastoral Care Specialist to provide spiritual support to prisoners and staff of various faiths. The role involves working with colleagues to ensure the delivery of PSI 05/2016 Faith and Pastoral Care for Prisoners policy framework.

This is a non-rotational, non-operational role with no line management responsibilities. The successful candidate will be expected to adapt to changing circumstances and accept additional tasks as necessary.

About the Role

  • Provide faith and pastoral care to prisoners and staff of various faiths.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure the delivery of PSI 05/2016 Faith and Pastoral Care for Prisoners policy framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with local faith communities to aid offender resettlement.
  • Take responsibility for one's own spiritual health and development.
  • Plan and lead worship services, facilitate study groups, and contribute to policy development.
  • Provide guidance on faith systems, offer pastoral care, and support volunteers.
  • Participate in training programs, represent the chaplaincy team at meetings, and contribute to data collection and analysis.

Essential Experience

  • Meet the faith eligibility requirements outlined in the Group Profile.
  • Able to communicate confidently through spoken and written English or Welsh (as required).

Faith/Belief Eligibility Requirements

  • Ordained Priest: Be an ordained priest in the Roman Catholic Church, formally endorsed by the Diocesan Bishop or Religious Superior, and agreed to work in a specific diocese.
  • Ordained Deacon, Religious Brother/Sister/Lay Person: Be an ordained Permanent Deacon, Religious Brother or Sister, or suitably qualified lay person of the Roman Catholic Church, formally endorsed by the Diocesan Bishop or Religious Superior, and agreed to work in a specific diocese.
  • All must have completed formally recognised theological formation and formal agreement from the local Diocesan Bishop to minister in prisons within his Diocese, and endorsement from the HMPPS Roman Catholic Faith and Belief Adviser.

Salary and Benefits

  • The salary for this position is estimated to be around £35,000 - £40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
