Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Administrative Office Specialist to provide administrative support and oversight to the university's English and Foreign Languages department and to the College of Liberal Arts, as well as an array of educational support programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Department Chair of English and Foreign Languages in furtherance of the mission of the university.
  • Interact with stakeholders on the phone, by email, or in person to provide guidance, referrals, and/or solutions to faculty, staff, students, and parents who need assistance.
  • Retrieve and interpret organizational policies across the university to provide support and guidance.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication skills to facilitate and ease daily interactions with a diverse group of university stakeholders.
  • Utilize strong computer skills and adapt to new tasks or sets of instructions to support office operations.
Requirements
  • Significant work experience interacting with stakeholders on the phone, by email, or in person.
  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve and interpret organizational policies across the university.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to adapt to new tasks or sets of instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in an office setting within higher education.
  • Training or licensure in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to attend on-campus training seminars, program training sessions, etc.
  • Willingness to assist with acquiring and distributing information to faculty regarding special campus programs.
