Consultant Learning Disability Psychiatrist Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Learning Disability Psychiatrist to join the NHS team. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-professional team including Medical staff, Nurses, Social Workers, Support Workers, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Speech and Language Therapists.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering care to patients in the Swansea region (SA4-SA7) and will be based in Llwyneryr AAU, Swansea, with regular travel to various locations within their geographical area.

The Learning Disability services in SBUHB are undergoing significant modernization, aiming to become leaders in the field.

Main Duties

The post holder will be responsible for delivering care to patients in the Swansea region and working as part of a multi-professional team.

This role requires broad-based experience in psychiatry across various sub-specialties, knowledge of UK hospital systems, and participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Competence in managing acute psychiatric presentations, expertise in treating mental disorders in people with learning disabilities, and safe and effective communication skills are essential.

Clinical Experience
  • Broad-based experience in psychiatry is required.
  • Experience in NHS settings, research, and training in providing sub-specialty services is necessary.
Clinical Governance
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding its role in improving medical practice is expected.
Research
  • Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence to improve clinical outcomes is required.
Teaching
  • Evidence of organizing programs and teaching medical students and junior doctors is necessary.
Management
  • Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS is essential.
Personal Qualities
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations, undertake responsibility, and work flexibly in response to changing service needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team-working skills, and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary and multi-agency team are required.
Salary and Benefits

Estimated salary: £100,000 - £120,000 per annum, depending on experience.
