Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our Zone Facilities Services Team as a Facilities Cleaning Assistant. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high-quality cleaning and facilities service to ensure that our facilities are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition.

Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service

The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for staff, students, and visitors, providing a friendly and customer-focused service. They will be responsible for welcoming and responding to enquiries, resolving problems, and promoting a positive image of the University at all times.

Operational

The Facilities Cleaning Assistant will be responsible for providing planned and reactive cleaning services to University-defined service level standards. This will include cleaning all accessible surfaces, emptying waste and recycling receptacles, and collecting and delivering clean and dirty laundry. They will also support internal and external emergency cleaning, ensuring that body fluid and other emergency spillages are dealt with in accordance with agreed procedures.

Health & Safety

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring their own personal safety and the safety of others by following safe working practices for the use and storage of equipment and machinery. They will also be responsible for reporting any breaches of security and emergencies within the zone to the Duty Manager or Security gatehouse.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and ExperienceKnowledge / Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a minimum Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 3 in English and Mathematics (National 3) or equivalent. They will also have some knowledge of cleaning or facilities duties and an understanding of the quality outputs and standards required in a cleaning or facilities role within a work environment.

Skills

The successful candidate will have the ability to use cleaning materials and operate mechanical and electrical machinery safely and effectively. They will also have numeracy skills and the ability to read written instructions, communicate and exchange information verbally in English. Additionally, they will be self-motivated with the ability to plan and organize their own duties/workload effectively and efficiently to meet service requirements.

Terms and Conditions

The successful candidate will be employed on a part-time basis (17.5 hours per week) and will be required to work shifts from 06.00 – 09.30, Monday to Friday. They will be a member of a world-changing, inclusive community that values ambition, excellence, integrity, and curiosity.
