Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Referral Coordinator to join our team at Intermountain Healthcare. As a key member of our patient access department, you will play a critical role in coordinating medical needs of patients between medical offices.

About the Role

This position is responsible for obtaining referral requests from physicians, ensuring patients have been cleared for specialty service office visits, and resolving pre-certification, registration, and case-related concerns prior to a patient's appointment. You will also be responsible for gathering pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to ensure the patient's financial obligations for services provided.

Responsibilities

  1. Obtains referral request from physician and ensures patient has been cleared for specialty service office visit.
  2. Resolves pre-certification, registration, and case-related concerns prior to patient's appointment.
  3. Gathers pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to ensure patient's financial obligations for services provided.
  4. Completes referral paperwork, including copies, and faxes to medical office.
  5. Contacts patient regarding referral information and provides specialist's name, location, and telephone number.
  6. Returns referral to physician for signature of completion.
  7. Serves as liaison between hospitals, physicians, health plans, vendors, and patients or other referral sources.
  8. Covers PSR position as needed.
  9. Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health and adheres to service behavior standards.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. One (1) year front office or revenue cycle experience in a healthcare organization required.
