Laboratory Support Specialist

Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled Laboratory Support Specialist to join their team in the Virology department. As a key member of the laboratory staff, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory by performing a range of tasks including specimen reception, tracking, disposal of samples/reagents, referral of samples to other laboratories, and entry of results into the laboratory computer information system (LIMS).
The ideal candidate will have some general laboratory skills for the accurate and safe use of laboratory equipment and reagents. You will work closely with biomedical scientists to ensure workload is processed in a timely and efficient manner. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Accepting a wide range of clinical samples into the Virology department
- Performing analysis of potentially infectious samples using sophisticated automated equipment
- Maintaining laboratory equipment
- Working in cooperation with BMS staff to ensure workload is processed in a timely and efficient manner

We are currently implementing a new state-of-the-art automation tender which will be replacing some of this equipment. The laboratory opening hours are 7am - 7pm Monday - Friday, 9am - 1pm on Saturdays.
The salary for this position is estimated to be around £28,000 - £35,000 per annum, depending on experience.
