About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Health Specialist to join our team in the East Region Health Protection service. As a Consultant, you will be responsible for providing expert Health Protection response across the East Region of Scotland, covering the NHS Board areas of Borders, Lothian, Forth Valley and Fife.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the out of hours on-call duty rota for the full range of health protection and specialist public health emergencies.
  • Work with colleagues across Scotland to safeguard the population's health through the development of public health strategies and policies for communicable disease, reduction of vaccine preventable disease, infection control and environmental health.
  • Advise, challenge and advocate to enable effective working across organisational boundaries.

Requirements

  • Be included in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice / GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration before the agreed start date) or be included in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
  • Have a high level of tact, diplomacy and ability to provide leadership on complex and contested areas of the health protection response.
