Maternal Health Specialist

NHS Scotland is a leading public health department committed to improving and protecting the health of people in Lothian as part of a whole system approach to public health in Scotland.
As a Maternal Health Specialist, you will work with a project team within the Maternal and Infant Nutrition Team hosted in Public Health and Health Policy. The Maternal and Infant Nutrition team works with frontline staff across Neonatal, Maternity, Family Nursing and Health Visiting services to enhance their skills and knowledge around infant feeding.
The service supports staff to support all mothers and parents during pregnancy and throughout early parenthood, regardless of how they feed their child, to have close and loving relationships with their baby by embedding the concept of responsive feeding.
You will be working on an exciting opportunity to join NHS Lothian's Public Health Department as a Project Midwife in the Antenatal Hand Expressing project within the Maternal and Infant Nutrition Service. Your role will be to support a project to reduce breastfeeding drop off by promoting hand expressing.
This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with healthcare professionals, pregnant women, and new mothers. You must have a deep understanding of maternal and infant health issues and the ability to develop and implement effective solutions.
The salary for this position is approximately £28,890 per annum, pro-rata based on a 37-hour working week. This reduction from the standard 37.5 hours will not affect your pay but may require you to work additional hours temporarily until the service adjusts its rosters or working patterns.
NHS Scotland aims to promote equality and diversity among its workforce and eliminate unlawful discrimination. We welcome applications from all sections of society and encourage those who share our commitment to improving public health to apply for this position.
