Job Summary
University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology with a special interest in General and Non-Surgical Glaucoma to join our dynamic team.
This is a permanent replacement post that will enhance the current establishment of NHS and academic staff in the Department of Ophthalmology.
Main Responsibilities
The successful appointee will participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, clinical audit, and management duties. They will work in a multidisciplinary team and contribute to the General Ophthalmology and emergency service on the Leicester Royal Infirmary site and associated community hospitals.
The appointee will join an active and enthusiastic team of 27 Ophthalmologists, providing sub-specialist Ophthalmology services within the UHL.

Person Specification
Essential
- Full GMC registration
- MBBS/MRCS
- Enthusiasm and commitment to teaching
- 4 years full-time postgraduate training or equivalent, at least 2 years as Ophthalmology trainee
- Ability to work in MDT teams and supervise juniors
- Ability to cope in stressful situations
Desirable
- Evidence of commitment to sub-specialty Uveitis
- Evidence of management and administrative experience
- Leadership qualifications
- Completion of formal audit courses
- Practical experience of participation in research projects
