Job Title: IT Developer

To develop and maintain high-quality software systems, ensuring they meet the technical specifications and requirements of our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse technical specifications and develop/modify in-house systems accordingly
  • Develop system changes and execute installations using standard practices
  • Understand, investigate, and produce gap analysis for change requests
  • Assist in providing accurate technical specifications for third-party products
  • Investigate and resolve system errors and crashes
  • Resolve allocated bugs/change requests/errors and other helpdesk jobs
  • Create and maintain documentation detailing development methodology and 'house style'
  • Provide support and assistance to other developers as required
  • Participate in providing relevant training as needed
  • Analyse requests and make recommendations for more efficient ways of achieving desired systems output
  • Enhance systems for increased automation opportunities, efficiency, and scalability
  • Monitor system performance
  • Discuss client requirements and proposed solutions with the IT team or clients
  • Create testing handover documents
  • Provide regular status updates to senior management and project team
  • Provide input to project delivery governance and development project plans
  • Be able to take outcomes and business problems and recommend development solutions
  • Attend internal and external client-facing meetings
  • Liaise and maintain relationships with other departments
  • Support and work in accordance with OPAL's ISO27001 and TCF policies and procedures

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

  • Excellent knowledge of Dbase 5, Novell, DOS, and Linux or other appropriate legacy technology
  • Experience in requirements gathering and solution writing
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Development Lead experience
  • Understanding of the development and project lifecycles
  • Ability to work in a pressurised and fast-moving environment and accurately record time
  • High quality of development work
  • Ability to adapt to change with a flexible approach
  • Experience of working within the Financial Services Industry an advantage

Additional Knowledge Required to Become Fully Competent:

  • Understanding of and the ability to develop in OPAL house standard practices
  • Preferred knowledge of single premium and regular premium products
  • FSA competent
  • Acquire and implement knowledge and awareness of ISO27001

Performance Management:

  • Responsible for the delivery of quality developments, to house standard that meets the needs of the client
  • Demonstrate a professional, collaborative, and supportive approach to colleagues

Output Responsibility:

  • Compliance with industry and statutory regulation
  • Responsibility for producing system development rules and ensuring adherence to them
  • Responsibility for developing and maintaining practices and procedures
  • Ensuring that these are implemented in a consistent manner with the appropriate level of controls
