Barnsley, Barnsley, United Kingdom NHS Jobs Full time

Key Clinical Duties:
The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of tasks including conducting surgical consultations, managing telephone inquiries, performing home visits, reviewing and authorizing both repeat and urgent prescriptions, and evaluating test results along with patient correspondence. The role involves preparing medical reports and referral letters for both NHS and private sectors in a timely manner. The practitioner will be expected to make independent, professional decisions regarding presenting issues, whether they are self-referred or referred by Federation colleagues. It is essential to maintain accurate and contemporaneous consultation records in accordance with established standards. Data collection for audit purposes is also a critical component of this role, alongside striving to meet all QOF, LES, and DES targets. The practitioner will be responsible for generating and issuing computer-based acute and repeat prescriptions, minimizing handwritten prescriptions whenever feasible, and prescribing in line with the practice's prescribing formulary or generically when clinically appropriate. Overall, the role encompasses all standard duties and responsibilities associated with a General Practitioner operating within primary care.

Additional Responsibilities within the Practice:
The candidate must demonstrate awareness and adherence to all pertinent practice policies and guidelines, including but not limited to prescribing protocols, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety regulations, and QOF standards. A commitment to continuous professional development and audit is essential to ensure the implementation of evidence-based best practices. The practitioner is expected to maintain an educational portfolio, contribute to evaluation and audit processes, and assist in setting clinical standards within the practice. Additionally, involvement in the development of electronic patient records is required. Attendance at training sessions, practice or federation meetings, and events organized by the federation or other relevant agencies is expected. The candidate must meet all deadlines for audits and written submissions to ensure the federation achieves quality benchmarks and secures the necessary funding, such as for annual QOF audits and out-of-hours assessments. Participation in primary care-led initiatives is also a key aspect of this role.
