About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Medical Claims Assessor to join our team in a hybrid or home-based capacity. As an Income Protection Claims Specialist, you will be responsible for assessing and processing claims in a fair and timely manner, ensuring that our customers receive the support they need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather and assess evidence to make informed decisions on claims, considering the customer's expectations and the company's financial and reputational interests.
  • Manage claims from start to finish, adhering to our claims guidelines and service standards to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, using a range of methods to keep them informed and minimize unnecessary contact.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, third parties, and colleagues, to obtain information and resolve issues.
  • Identify and address appeals and complaints, taking ownership of resolving them quickly and efficiently.
  • Support the development of colleagues through training, mentoring, and coaching, to improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Manage complex and sensitive claims, such as those involving fraud, litigation, or potential litigation, working closely with managers, GFC, and legal services to ensure effective resolution.
Requirements
  • Experience in handling Income Protection claims, with a background in medical claims assessment.
  • Awareness of compliance regulations and adherence to these.
  • Good medical knowledge and understanding of underwriting, including new business processes.
  • Ability to show empathy and sensitivity when dealing with customers.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to handle difficult conversations and situations.
