About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Employer Engagement Specialist to join our team at Mencap. As an Employer Engagement Specialist, you will play a key role in building and maintaining relationships with local businesses to secure work placements and job opportunities for our young learners with Learning disabilities and/or Autism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with employers from various industries and sectors to secure work placements and negotiate paid employment for our supported interns.
  • Oversee the work of our supported interns in the workplace, ensuring that placements progress and learners become independent, eventually moving into paid work.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities with local employers to create work placements and job opportunities for our learners.
  • Manage and maintain accurate records of employer engagement activities, including meetings, emails, and phone calls.
  • Collaborate with our Skills Coaches to ensure that our supported interns receive the necessary support and guidance to succeed in their work placements.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in employer engagement, business development, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with employers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on delivering results and meeting targets.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of the supported internship program and its benefits, as well as the needs and challenges of young people with Learning disabilities and/or Autism.
