About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our team as a Specialist Autism Lead. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop a brand-new autism provision at Ark Brunel Primary Academy.

As a Specialist Autism Lead, you will play a key role in establishing and implementing a specialist teaching and learning approach for pupils with autism. You will oversee the teaching, learning, and assessment of all pupils in the provision, using specific autism and communication curriculums and systems.

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong passion for working with pupils with autism and a proven track record of developing and implementing effective teaching and learning strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of a specialist teaching and learning approach for pupils with autism
  • Oversee the teaching, learning, and assessment of all pupils in the provision
  • Use specific autism and communication curriculums and systems to support pupil learning
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with parents and carers to ensure effective support for pupils
  • Work collaboratively with the leadership team to develop and implement school-wide policies and procedures
What You'll Need
  • Qualified Teaching Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching pupils with autism
  • Good knowledge of the SEND code of practice and all statutory requirements and timelines
  • Good knowledge of the Ofsted inspection framework, particularly in regards to pupils with SEND
  • Trained in (or have used) specialist teaching and learning strategies applicable to working and supporting pupils with autism
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
