The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Education Mental Health Practitioner to join our Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in West Sussex County Council. As an EMHP, you will play a vital role in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in education settings.

About the Role

As an Education Mental Health Practitioner, you will work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to identify and address the mental health needs of children and young people. You will deliver evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), to support the emotional wellbeing and mental health of your clients. You will also work with schools and colleges to develop and implement whole-school approaches to mental health and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver low-intensity, CBT-informed therapeutic mental health assessments and interventions with children and young people, and/or their families.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals to identify and address the mental health needs of children and young people.
  • Develop and implement whole-school approaches to mental health and wellbeing in collaboration with schools and colleges.
  • Provide training and support to teachers and other professionals on mental health and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of mental health policies and procedures in schools and colleges.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A Post Graduate Diploma in Education Mental Health or a related field.
  • Experience working with children and young people in an education setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently.
  • Ability to manage a caseload and prioritize tasks effectively.
