Maintenance Plant Fitter – Mechanical Specialist

About the Role

Tarmac is seeking a skilled Maintenance Plant Fitter – Mechanical to join our team at Barrasford Quarry and Asphalt Plant in Hexham, Northumberland.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and inclusive environment, where you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing complex mechanical systems, including crushers, conveyors, and asphalt plants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to plant breakdowns and ensure timely repairs to minimize downtime
  • Undertake emergency breakdown repairs and preventative maintenance planning
  • Liaise with contractors and suppliers to ensure efficient maintenance activities
  • Participate in root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the engineering function
  • Maintain and promote Health & Safety rules and regulations

Requirements

  • Recognized apprenticeship in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Strong practical mechanical systems background, with experience in heavy industry
  • Fault finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action
  • Ability to remove and fit bearings, and perform welding and fabricating tasks
  • Knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices
