About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Support Specialist to join our team at Blind Veterans UK. As a Community Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting our members in London and Kent to achieve their goals, while maximizing their independence and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and identify the needs of individuals, responding to queries and feedback to better coordinate services.
  • Collaborate with members to plan and oversee the delivery of specialist interventions, wellbeing programs, rehabilitation events, and other activities, focusing on promoting independence and wellbeing.
  • Act as the service coordinator and main point of contact for members, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Demonstrate and issue equipment to members, ensuring they have the necessary tools to maintain their independence.
  • Support the development and work of our volunteers, empowering them to make a positive impact in the lives of our members.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships for joint working, member support, and future programs, ensuring a seamless delivery of services.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and risk management policies, prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of our members.
Requirements
  • Experience of working with people with disabilities to maximize their independence and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of completing comprehensive, holistic assessments.
  • Experience of delivering remote and face-to-face services, with a strong understanding of the importance of adaptability and flexibility.
  • The ability to effectively use assessment tools and action plans to deliver person-centered outcomes and make onward referrals.
  • The ability to identify safeguarding concerns and act in line with policies, prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of our members.
  • Excellent team working and collaboration skills, with the ability to build positive and effective professional relationships with members and their networks.
  • Engaging, proactive, and self-motivated, with the ability to work autonomously and make decisions.
  • The ability to prioritize a diverse range of tasks while remaining calm under pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to share knowledge, skills, and experience, and support others in their learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to network at all levels internally and externally.
  • A relevant Level 4 qualification (at a minimum) or equivalent experience.
