Data Centre Operations Director

Harrington Starr is seeking an experienced Data Centre Operations Director to lead our downstream execution of a new co-location data centre initiative in London.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and validating cage specifications to ensure they meet client standards. They will also work closely with vendors and their build teams to ensure all requirements are met and aligned with specifications.

This role requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage multi-stakeholder teams effectively. Excellent communication skills are also essential to engage stakeholders and foster collaboration across diverse teams.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in managing data centre projects within complex environments. Expertise in engaging with Co-Lo vendors and ensuring compliance with defined standards and specifications is also highly desirable.

Responsibilities:
  1. Define and validate cage specifications to ensure they meet client standards.
  2. Work with vendors and their build teams to ensure requirements are met and aligned with specifications.
  3. Maintain clear communication with Data Centre teams for validation and updates.
  4. Collaborate with application, service, and infrastructure teams to review and finalize project plans.
  5. Manage cross-functional teams spanning infrastructure, development, architecture, governance, and customer-facing business units.
  6. Act as Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and buy-in for project plans.
  7. Proactively engage stakeholders, facilitate clear communication, and minimize disruptions.
  8. Develop detailed project plans covering data centre builds and migration processes.
  9. Interface with account teams and customers to secure buy-in, address technical queries, and manage expectations.
  10. Lead migration activities, including weekend work, Network Integration Tests (NITs), Disaster Recovery (DR) tests, and migration dress rehearsals.
  11. Manage physical and logical migrations.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in managing data centre projects within complex environments.
  • Expertise in engaging with Co-Lo vendors and ensuring compliance with defined standards and specifications.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage multi-stakeholder teams effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage stakeholders and foster collaboration across diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, execute, and manage detailed project plans.
  • Flexibility to work during weekends and evenings for critical phases.
Compensation and Benefits:

$120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience.
