Postdoctoral Research Associate in Molecular Mimicry

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team at the Department of Genetics in Cambridge. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading key bioinformatics projects, including screens to identify new DNA mimicking proteins, in silico protein engineering, and studying the natural diversity of mimics and their evolution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish large-scale bioinformatic screens to identify new cases of molecular mimicry
  • Combine protein structure prediction tools with tailored structure comparison algorithms
  • Explore the natural diversity of DNA mimicking proteins to understand the determinants of successful molecular mimicry
  • Design and implement in silico protein design tools to explore the production of entirely new mimicking proteins
  • Study the implication of DNA mimicking proteins in prokaryotic gene flow and antibiotic resistance genes
Requirements:
  • PhD in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Strong background in protein structure analysis
  • Experience in supervising junior lab members and students
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
