ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking a visionary and dynamic leader to oversee the Family Support Services at SIG Safe Ground.

This pioneering initiative integrates creative interventions for incarcerated men, tailored family counseling, and essential support for families visiting their loved ones.

As the leader of this innovative service, you will collaborate with both internal and external teams to redefine family support within the criminal justice framework, aiming to foster a cultural transformation at HMP Altcourse and beyond.


SIG Safe Ground boasts three decades of expertise in delivering arts-based, therapeutically informed group work, with a commitment to enhancing the lives of those affected by the criminal justice system.

We are looking for a proactive individual who is dedicated to developing imaginative, family-centered approaches to effectively assist those in distress.

You will be part of a reflective and energetic team of facilitators, counselors, and family liaison professionals, dedicated to empowering individuals with experiences in the criminal justice system to cultivate practical skills for positive progression.

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday 8.30am-4.30pm, with flexibility during program delivery hours.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
You will demonstrate a profound enthusiasm for arts-based interventions, complemented by outstanding communication, organizational, and supportive abilities. Your methodology will focus on cultivating and sustaining relationships, acknowledging their vital role in personal growth.

You will utilize creative strategies, including group work, arts, and drama techniques, to motivate and facilitate positive behavioral shifts and new perspectives for individuals in custody and their families.


You are skilled in leading and inspiring teams, thriving in a fast-paced environment where your proactive and adaptable qualities are evident.

Your leadership will embody a commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centered support, grounded in a trauma-informed framework and a non-judgmental stance.


Training will be a fundamental aspect of this role, encompassing experiential program training and Security and Key Training through the Criminal Justice Service, ensuring you are fully prepared to meet the demands of the position.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Management
  • Deliver exceptional support and line management to staff, providing guidance and assistance to empower the team.
  • Oversee the management and leadership of personnel throughout the entire employee lifecycle.
  • Foster a culture of learning, development, and evaluation.
  • Establish strong internal relationships across the organization and ensure effective communication.
Operational
  • Ensure the service operates in alignment with the standards of Safe Ground, Social Interest Group, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Implement necessary measures to establish and deliver programs as part of the core curriculum within the designated prison service.
  • Assist the team in achieving performance targets and objectives.
  • Participate in and contribute to meetings related to the program, and organize meetings as necessary.
  • Coordinate with the team and participants to identify and maximize opportunities for program development in line with the organizational strategic plan.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Collaborate closely with the team to monitor, gather feedback, evaluate, and enhance programs for continuous improvement.
  • Administrative and other duties will vary as required.


Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed, provided they align with the capabilities and level of the position.


KEY CRITERIA
Essential Qualifications:
  • Background in arts education, dramatherapy, or applied theatre and/or education
  • Experience in a prison or criminal justice environment, or in a similar role
  • Proficiency in IT, with the ability to learn new software and basic Microsoft applications
  • Understanding and/or experience with therapeutic group work techniques
  • Awareness and/or practical knowledge of the social and societal marginalization faced by individuals within the criminal justice system

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience in line management
  • Relevant professional qualification: NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Health & Social Care/Community Justice/Arts/Dramatherapy or equivalent
  • Understanding and/or practical knowledge of the social and societal marginalization faced by individuals within the criminal justice system
