We are seeking a visionary and dynamic leader to oversee the Family Service at HMP Altcourse, a pioneering initiative by SIG Safe Ground. This unique program integrates innovative approaches for incarcerated men, personalized family counseling, and practical assistance for families visiting their loved ones. In this role, you will collaborate with both internal and external teams to redefine family support within the criminal justice framework, aiming to foster a cultural transformation at HMP Altcourse and beyond.

ABOUT SIG SAFE GROUND

With three decades of expertise in delivering arts-based, therapeutic group work, SIG Safe Ground is committed to enhancing the lives of those affected by the criminal justice system. We are looking for a proactive individual who is dedicated to creating family-centered strategies that effectively support individuals in crisis. You will be part of a reflective and energetic team of facilitators, counselors, and family liaison professionals, helping those impacted by the criminal justice system develop practical skills for positive progression.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position requires a commitment of 37.5 hours per week, typically from Monday to Friday, with flexible hours during program delivery.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to arts-based interventions, along with outstanding communication, organizational, and supportive skills. Your focus will be on cultivating and maintaining relationships, recognizing their essential role in personal growth. You will utilize creative techniques, including group activities and arts, to inspire and facilitate positive behavioral shifts and new perspectives for individuals in custody and their families.

As a leader, you will motivate and guide teams, thriving in a fast-paced environment where your proactive and adaptable nature can flourish. Your leadership style will reflect a dedication to delivering high-quality, person-centered support, grounded in a trauma-informed approach and a non-judgmental perspective.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Training will be a vital component of this role, including experiential program training and security protocols through the Criminal Justice Service, ensuring you are well-prepared to meet the challenges of this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Management Duties

  • Provide exemplary support and supervision to staff, offering guidance and assistance as a leader.
  • Oversee the management and leadership of team members throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Foster a culture of learning, development, and evaluation within the team.
  • Establish strong internal relationships and ensure effective communication across the organization.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Ensure the service operates in accordance with the standards set by Safe Ground, Social Interest Group, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Implement necessary measures to deliver programs as part of the core curriculum at the designated service.
  • Support the team in achieving performance targets and objectives.
  • Participate in and contribute to meetings related to the program, and organize meetings as needed.
  • Coordinate with team members and participants to identify and maximize opportunities for program development in line with the strategic plan.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Collaborate with the team to monitor, gather feedback, evaluate, and enhance programs for continuous improvement.
  • Perform administrative tasks and other duties as required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Skills

  • Experience in arts education, dramatherapy, or applied theatre and/or education
  • Background in a prison or criminal justice environment, or a similar role
  • Proficiency in IT and ability to learn new software applications
  • Understanding of therapeutic group work techniques
  • Awareness of the social and societal challenges faced by individuals within the criminal justice system

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in line management
  • Relevant professional qualifications, such as NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Health & Social Care/Community Justice/Arts/Dramatherapy or equivalent
  • Familiarity with the social and societal challenges faced by individuals within the criminal justice system
